Day Trip From Delhi

Location

Delhi

Overview

A same-day trip to Jaipur from Delhi offers an excellent opportunity to explore the "Pink City" and experience its magnificent forts, palaces, and rich history. Here’s a well-planned itinerary to make the most of your time:

Early Morning: Departure from Delhi

  • Start your journey from Delhi early in the morning, around 6:00 AM. You can travel by car or train. By car, it’s a 5-hour drive, while the Shatabdi Express or Ajmer Shatabdi trains offer a quick 4-5 hours journey to Jaipur. Ensure you have breakfast before leaving or take some snacks with you.

9:30 AM: Arrival in Jaipur

  • You’ll arrive in Jaipur by around 9:30 AM, depending on your mode of transport. Upon arrival, you can head straight to your first attraction.

Morning: Amber Fort

  • Start your sightseeing with Amber Fort, a grand hilltop fort located around 30 minutes from the city center. Explore the opulent Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), Jaleb Chowk, and Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience). You can either climb to the fort or take an elephant ride for a more traditional experience (subject to availability). Don’t miss the panoramic views of the city from the fort’s ramparts.

11:30 AM: Visit the City Palace

  • After Amber Fort, head back to the city and visit the City Palace, an architectural marvel that blends Mughal and Rajasthani styles. The palace complex houses several courtyards, museums, and the Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace). It’s an excellent spot to learn about Jaipur’s royal heritage.

1:00 PM: Jantar Mantar

  • From the City Palace, walk to Jantar Mantar, the world’s largest stone observatory, built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. This UNESCO World Heritage site features a collection of astronomical instruments that were used to measure time and track celestial bodies.

1:30 PM: Lunch at a Local Restaurant

  • Enjoy a delicious Rajasthani lunch at a local restaurant. You can try authentic dishes like dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri, and laal maas. Some popular places for lunch in Jaipur include Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar (LMB) or Chokhi Dhani for an authentic Rajasthani experience.

2:30 PM: Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds)

  • After lunch, visit Hawa Mahal, the iconic “Palace of Winds” with its intricately designed windows (jharokhas) that allowed royal women to observe the city life without being seen. The building’s unique pink sandstone structure is one of Jaipur’s most photographed landmarks.

3:30 PM: Jal Mahal (Optional)

  • If time permits, head to Jal Mahal, a stunning palace situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. Though you can't go inside, it’s a great spot for photos and offers a peaceful atmosphere.

4:00 PM: Albert Hall Museum (Optional)

  • If you're interested in museums, you can also visit the Albert Hall Museum, which is Jaipur’s oldest museum and houses a collection of artifacts, including sculptures, textiles, and a famous Egyptian mummy.

5:00 PM: Shopping at Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar

  • Spend some time shopping at Jaipur’s famous Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar, where you can find traditional Rajasthani jewelry, textiles, pottery, and handicrafts. This is a great way to pick up souvenirs.

6:00 PM: Return to Delhi

  • After a day full of exploration, head back to the Jaipur Railway Station or your vehicle for your return journey to Delhi. If you're traveling by train, the Shatabdi Express departs at around 6:45 PM, reaching Delhi by 9:30 PM. If you're traveling by car, you will reach Delhi by 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM, depending on traffic.

9:30 PM: Arrival in Delhi

  • You will arrive back in Delhi by 9:30 PM, concluding your exciting and action-packed same-day trip to Jaipur.

This itinerary covers Jaipur’s must-see attractions in a day, from the majestic Amber Fort to the famous Hawa Mahal, allowing you to enjoy the best of the Pink City without feeling rushed.
